The top 20 video games ever created !

The top 20 video games ever created

What are the greatest video games ever made? In honor of the video game industry approaching 20, we thought we'd have this dialogue, which is intentionally polarizing.

We put a list of the greatest games ever in cooperation with the Golden Joystick Awards. We narrowed down our final choice from the millions of titles available by taking into account influence, originality, legacy, societal effect, critical acclaim, and long-lasting playability. The end result is a list of the top 20 video games that spans decades and genres, respecting both classic titles from the past and those we think will have a significant impact on the future of the industry.

With these kinds of undertakings, there is always some room for subjective interpretation, which is why we made the process public. The entries that made up the top 20 were chosen by a jury of notable figures in the industry, and the viewers of the Golden Joystick Awards chose the top 20,  Since Nintendo made things more difficult than they needed to be, we were careful to only include one game from each series, with the exception of those that have dramatically pushed the bounds of 2D or 3D.

  • 19 - Forza Horizon 4

Release: 2018 | Developer: Playground Games

Not only does Forza Horizon 4 deserve particular recognition for bringing shifting seasons to the Xbox racing game, but it also rendered an important service to the British tourism board. With tracks crisscrossing meadows, seasides, and lush woodlands, it is an artist's vision of Britain that is more aesthetically gorgeous than any postcard. Lakes froze over to become safe for driving on as a result of the changing seasons, which also altered the options each place offered. If the landscape wasn't enough to pique your interest, there were also 750 licensed automobiles to collect, the option to design your own routes, and a bumper pack of post-release material that featured treasure-hunting tasks and the possibility to race Lego cars.

In a nutshell, Forza Horizon 4 is an absolutely gorgeous racing game.

  • 18 - Batman: Arkham Asylum

Release: 2009 | Developer: Rocksteady Studios

The superhero game that changed the face of the genre. Rocksteady's initial foray into the Batman franchise was a massive hit back in 2009. It was dark, gritty, scary, and very enjoyable from beginning to end. In addition to introducing traditional Metroidvania traits into a contemporary 3D world, Arkham Asylum is praised for raising the bar for action fighting. It's a complete thrill to sneak up on foes and confront them face to face in Arkham Asylum. It's also fun to navigate the prison's cramped confines while using Batman's collection of useful tools. The dark and twisted sides of both the protagonist and the adversaries in Rocksteady's stories were expertly captured, and the institution frequently has a spookier atmosphere than the criminals that hide inside its eerie corridors.

  • 17 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Release: 2017 | Developer: Nintendo EPD

Even now, only a few years after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's release, it's impossible to measure Link's first voyage on Nintendo Switch. It's one of those rare releases whose impact has been so profound that it has silently crept into the fabric of the whole video game industry, the repercussions of which are just now being revealed and will not be completely realized for years. Breath of the Wild is a once-in-a-generation classic, lauded for its freeform approach to problem solving and magnificent open world, remembered for its hard combat and smart storyline. Unsurprisingly, it is also one of the most popular and highly praised games of all time.

  • 16 - Half-Life 2

Release: 2004 | Developer: Valve

Half-Life 2 is over 20 years old, yet Valve's landmark first-person shooter still looks stunning today. The word 'game-changer' is overused in current video game discourse, but Gordon Freeman's second excursion was exactly that when it premiered towards the end of 2004, setting a new, notably higher bar for all narrative FPS games moving ahead. Few games have come close in the ensuing years, owing to the game's precise fighting mechanics, intelligent puzzle set-pieces, and captivating narration - all of which were carried over into episodic sequels, Episode One and Episode Two. Half-Life 2 shares the highest Metacritic score (96/100) with its series predecessor Half-Life and GTA 5.

  • 15 - Dark Souls

Release: 2011 | Developer: FromSoftware

Dark Souls' route to popular acclaim was as twisted as the animals hiding in Demon Ruins, from cult classic to sleeping behemoth to one of the most important action-RPGs of a generation. FromSoftware's indirect sequel to 2009's Demon's Souls is hardly a walk in the park, but scratch beneath its difficulty and you'll find a wonderful, open-lored, and expertly-designed fantasy role-player, with larger-than-life enemies, mysterious NPCs, and epic boss battles that will leave the words 'YOU DIED' etched into your mind via the tip of a Dragonslayer Spear. So many games owe their existence to Dark Souls, and because to its 2011 success, creator FromSoftware is now a household name.

  • 14 - Minecraft

Release: 2011 | Developer: Mojang

It's difficult to picture what the video game business would be like now if Minecraft didn't exist. Mojang's breakout indie release, which grew into a billion-dollar cultural phenomenon, altered the way we play today. Even as it grew and changed over time, Minecraft never lost sight of the necessity of positioning a player's creativity as a fundamental mechanism, just as important as crafting or warfare. You may come for the survival experience, but you'll stay for the limitless inventiveness that the construction sandbox can provide. If you can imagine anything, you can construct it; that's a setting that appeals to both seasoned gamers and youngsters, and it remains a great feat.

  • 13 - The Last of Us

Release: 2013
Developer: Naughty Dog

As if the game's critical and economic success wasn't enough, The Last of Us has since been remastered, gotten a slew of similarly great DLC add-ons, produced a beautiful sequel, and is the basis for a planned HBO television series. That tells you all you need to know about Naughty Dog's pioneering zombie action-adventure game from 2013, which follows protagonists Joel and Ellie on their trek through the post-apocalypse. It's intelligent, emotional, and effortlessly integrates compelling story with high-action, gun-toting survival - where prioritizing scarce resources to construct petrol bombs over health kits can be as heartbreaking as facing a horde of ravenous Clickers. From beginning to end, this film is terrifyingly fantastic.

  • 12 - Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior

Release: 1991- Developer: capcom

The classic fighting game that served as the model for nearly all beat 'ems to appear on consoles, PCs, or arcade cabinets during the past three decades. Street Fighter 2, the groundbreaking sequel to 1987's Street Fighter, was so well received that it was released in five different versions between 1991 and 1994. These included the regular edition, the Champion Edition, the Hyper Fighting variant, the Super addition, and the Super Turbo edition. Ryu and Ken are among the most recognizable video game characters ever, and Street Fighter is now the highest-grossing fighting game media franchise. Street Fighter 2 is the best-selling game out of a staggering 37 titles in the main series, spin-offs, and crossovers.

  • 11 - Fortnite: Battle Royale

Release: 2017 - Developer: Epic games

Simply simply, Fortnite is the definition of the phrase "runaway success." It's difficult to think that Epic Games' omnipresent video game, which has branched out into real-world merchandising, pop-star crossovers, and high-street fashion as well as many other extracurricular endeavors, is only a little over four years old. Fortnite has developed a following of its own with over 350 million users registered thanks to its take on the tried-and-true battle royale format, where building and construction features were introduced to the rounds of 100-player, last-person-standing PvP. The fundamental potential of games is now best illustrated by Fortnite, a dynamic playground for interaction and competitiveness.
Fortnite is a battle to survive, a playground, and a social hub, but perhaps most significantly, it's a platform for original thought and deeds.

  •  10 - Destiny 2

Release: 2017 - Developer: Bungie

Destiny 2, which was released six years ago, is continuously releasing fresh episodes of space fantasy adventures and debates about the greatest loot. The Beyond Light expansion recently included a new Darkness power, and fans are eagerly looking forward to the early-2019 release of The Witch Queen, which will bring in even more new content. The game is currently producing some of the most thrilling online gaming narratives, despite having enough lore to choke a librarian and an ensemble cast of amazing characters like Savathûn, the sister of Oryx, and fan favorite Eris Morn. Bungie maintains its Guardians' devotion to its gameplay with an epic story that is always changing, weekly updates that are sent to the community, and activities like raids that require more than just shooting prowess to complete.

  • 9 - Bloodborne

Release: 2015 - Developer: FromSoftware

Bloodborne, FromSoftware's first departure from its Souls series, provided us with yet another action-RPG game with a Lovecraftian twist. According to the developers' reputation, the outcome is horrifyingly clever and extremely punitive while utilizing speedier combat systems. It is set in a decaying world where blood itself serves as the primary currency of Yharnam. While Bloodborne's predecessors didn't exactly back down from a challenge, it does so by completely eliminating shields, shifting the emphasis to parry mechanisms, and sending players up against some of the most horrifying and depraved bosses ever to appear in a video game. Father Gascoine, Vicar Amelia, the Cleric Beast, the One Reborn,The anguished abominations in Bloodborne highlight what makes this PS4 exclusive so unique.

  • 8 - Dishonored 2

Release: 2016 - Developer: Arkane Studios

A sequel should be everything Dishonored 2 is. Arkane deftly brings back Corvo Attano, the lead character from the first game, while extending the range of gameplay by including Emily Kaldwin as a second playable character. Dishonored 2 improves on what Dishonored did well, including the sophisticated world-building, multi-tier mission structure, creative skill combinations, and variety of clever puzzles. There is a genuine sense that the city of Karnaca is a living, breathing beast that exists regardless of the player's choices, whether they choose to play in high chaos while taking down as many enemies as they can or in complete stealth. Not only is Clockwork Mansion one of the best levels in the Dishonored series, but one of the most creative levels in video game history.

  • 7 - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Release: 2009 - Developer: Naughty Dog

At this point, Drake solidified his reputation as the most endearing action hero. He was paired with firecracker Chloe Frazer, who injected a new level of tension to the treasure hunter's customary banter. Massive set pieces and smaller emotional punches smoothly blended together in the sequel, which seemed like Naughty Dog's attempt to perfect its distinctive cinematic approach. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves looked amazing and was one of the few times when the execution was just as remarkable as the vision, whether you were firing off guns and one-liners, scaling the walls of a collapsed temple, or escaping the enormous guardians of the ancient city of Shambhala.

  • 6 - Mass Effect 2

Release: 2010- Developer: BioWare

Mass Effect 2 is one of the best and most well-liked sequels there is. The series experienced a physical and figurative rebirth after BioWare killed off Shepard in the first few minutes of the legendary protagonist's return. Each crew member fighting beside you on the Normandy contributes something to the table as you face unimaginable odds in a high stakes epic suicide mission. It's also all too simple to establish attachments with them because of their distinct personalities. Mass Effect 2 succeeds in elevating the series to new starry heights in a way that few sequels do because to its superb character-driven storytelling, better combat, and choices that have life or death repercussions for the characters around you.
it's undoubtedly grown to be the archetypal space-traveling RPG.

  • 5 - God of War

Release: 2018 - Developer: Sony Santa Monica

It's difficult to think of a comeback after Mariah Carey that compares to what Kratos accomplished in the 2018 adaptation of God of War. The original series' frat boy antics were replaced with an incredibly rich tapestry of passion, Norse myth, and cutting satisfaction. We truly cared about why Kratos was doing it this time, and we became completely entwined in his love with his son Atreus. This new Kratos was just as lethal and physically able to slash a route through the planet and its warriors as before. Tears and blood were shed, in large part because of the outstanding performances Sunny Suljic and Christoper Judge gave in the key roles.

  • 4 - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Release: 2015 - Developer: CD Projekt Red

The Witcher 3 is the closest a game has ever come to mastering the fantasy RPG formula. The game placed us in the role of the snarky monster mercenary and then left us free in a world of epic missions, convoluted characters, and moral issues. It did this by drawing inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski's rich, fantasy novels. The story of the ghost of a woman who was eaten alive by afflicted rats or the encounter with a suicidal werewolf are just two examples of how even the simplest side quests can suddenly bring about an emotional epiphany.
Even if Wild Hunt is your first Witcher game, the primary quest packs just as much emotional impact with a family of misfits who feel familiar and significant as you battle through the story's challenges together. In video games, there are a lot of heroes, but there is only one Geralt of Rivia.

  • 3 - Pokemon Go

Release: 2016 - Developer: Niantic

We got up from our seats and onto the streets thanks to Pokemon Go. Do you recall the tone that surrounded augmented reality technology in 2016? It was either aggressively antagonistic or, at best, willfully dismissive. Over 150 million would-be Pokemon trainers now have the chance to realize their ambition of being the finest trainer ever thanks to Pokemon Go, which has since transformed everything. Using the GPS data from a mobile device, developer Niantic's Pokemon Go uses your real-world location to help you find, catch, train, and battle Pokemon. This game has become a genuine cultural phenomenon. The play is straightforward and social, the setup is creative, and the outcome is still to be determined.

  • 2 - Resident Evil 4

Release: 2005 - Developer: Capcom

The modifications Resident Evil 4 made to the well-known survival horror concept seemed slight in 2005. Its influence on horror games in particular and video games in general, however, cannot be overstated 16 years later. Resident Evil 4 is regarded as one of the best games of all time because so many games, spanning so many different genres, have taken inspiration from its design, including its over-the-shoulder camera perspective and fast-moving hordes of infected villagers. Capcom's venerable survival horror series has been revitalized by transitioning to a first-person perspective in its most recent entries, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, but there's a good case to be made that Resident Evil 4 is Resident Evil at its very best.

  • 1 - Grand Theft Auto 5

Release: 2013 - Developer: Rockstar North

A game is doing something right if it can cross not just one, not two, but three console generations. Grand Theft Auto 5 has, unsurprisingly, gone on to become one of the most popular video games of all time, having sold over 155 million copies as of this writing. Gunrunning, drug production, nightclub ownership, and casino heisting are just a few of the more exotic activities offered within the game's dozens of free updates. As a result of the lack of single player DLC, GTA 5's online offshoot, GTA Online, is largely responsible for the game's current popularity. GTA 5 is the full package for would-be online lawbreakers when combined with a satirically swiped Story Mode.
